| The Seattle Thunderbirds scored two goals in the first 2:58 of the first period and then held on to defeat the Portland Winter Hawks 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in pre-season action at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA.
Lindsay Neilsen and Greg Scott scored goals seven seconds apart at 2:51 and 2:58 of the first period to provide the offense for Seattle.Portland made it a one-goal game halfway through the third period when rookie Luke Walker banged home a Tyler Swystun pass on a two-on-one set up by a long outlet from Kurtis Mucha on the power play. Portland generated a few more chances down the stretch but couldn't find the equalizer before time expired.
Mucha went the distance in net, stopping 34 of 36 shots for Portland. Tyler Esau stopped 18 of 19 shots in net for Seattle.
Portland went 1 for 10 on the power play while Seattle finished 0 for 7.
Portland is now 1-4-0-0 in pre-season action.
Portland will wrap up pre-season play next Saturday when they take on the Tri City Americans at 7:00 PM in Kennewick, WA. | |
