| Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips tallied just sixteen shots on goal versus an experienced Vancouver Giants defense, falling at home in the preseason opener, 3-1. Jeff Regier recorded the lone Everett goal in the losing effort as the 'Tips look to bounce back Saturday night against the rival Seattle Thunderbirds.
Seventeen year old Kraymer Barnstable stopped fifteen of sixteen shots in his WHL debut, lasting all sixty minutes while leading Vancouver to the victory. He benefitted from a Giants' defensive corps that was successful in going down low and blocking the Silvertips' shots from the point.
2007 first round bantam draft pick Kent Simpson was solid throughout most of his time in net, though he allowed two late first period goals as Everett fell behind 2-0 after the first period. He stopped the first thirteen shots he faced before allowing goals on the next three as Mitch Czibere got the Giants on the board at the 19:21 mark of the first period. Less than ten seconds later, Chris Cloud scored on a wraparound to make it a 2-0 game. Cloud would add another goal just 36 seconds into the second period as Everett was done in by one poor minute of action between the first and second periods.
David Reekie entered the game halfway through the second period and stopped all eighteen shots he faced.
Six seconds after Vancouver defenseman Neil Manning was whistled for tripping in the third period, Regier wound up on a blast that deflected past Barnstable to put Everett on the board at the 4:15 mark of the third period. The shot came immediately off the face off on a pass from Eddie Friesen. Center Vitali Karamanov was also credited with an assist for a clean faceoff win.
The Silvertips look to bounce back Saturday evening as they host the rival Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:05 pm. The game will follow a matchup between the Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans as well as an afternoon contest between the Giants and Portland Winter Hawks. Doors to Comcast Arena at Everett Events Center will open at 11:00 am for the 11:30 matchup between Spokane and Tri-City. | |
